The Golden God of Aiolia

Rumors spread that the shrine at Delphi has been pillaged, and the most spectacular armor in the world, the armor of Achilles, has been stolen!  Worse still, someone claiming to be a revived Achilles is wearing the armor and ransacking his own homeland.  When she hears the news, Atalanta sets out with her cousins Ariadne and Eurysakes to put a stop to the  man impersonating her father.

Little do the cousins know that much more is going on than just a grave-robbing  bandit...

This is book two of a series of seven (vaguely) Young Adult books I wrote back in 2014.  It has been polished up and posted here on itch, as the rest will be in due time.  As with the first book, I have added some interactivity to this version; in some of the combat scenes, there are choices to be made, some of which can lead to a hasty death for one or more of our leads.  (They cannot, however, change the outcome of the story as a whole.)  In addition, I have added an extensive (30k+ words!) glossary, complete with a recap of the first book and several informative sections on the culture and mythology of the era.

Using Ren'py also gave me the opportunity to add in chapter title cards ^ and to use text backgrounds based on the UI I had created for a VN I started work on but ended up cancelling.  It also let me use some of the other art I made for that game as images to set the mood between different scenes...

These images were created by tracing over photographs of Mycenaean and Minoan frescoes (most of them heavily reconstructed).


The gold ring on the cover image (and in the header at the top of this game page) was excavated at Tiryns.  The photograph was uploaded to Wikimedia Commons by Zde.

I did not add music, however, so I recommend putting on some music you enjoy while you read.  :)

Content Warnings:

Period-appropriate misogyny (albeit toned down), cultural racism, non-ethnic slavery, mentions of past physical abuse, mentions of rape,  non-graphic descriptions of violence...and probably a lot of other things, too, as the Late Bronze Age was not a pleasant place.  (Nor was the Greek Heroic Age, and this is sort of a fusion between the real LBA and the mythical one...)

The ebook versions are very much "quick and dirty," having been downloaded from where I posted the novel to AO3.  But they're functional, and that's what matters, right?  (I do recommend the Ren'py version over the ebooks, though, for the glossary if nothing else.)
