Full Game Credits (with Links)
Welcome to the full credits for The Forest of Fractured Time!
The game was written and coded into Ren'py by me, PyrrhaIphis. It's just a light and silly thing that I made for Winter Jam because...well, because I haven't released anything since April, and I was feeling the itch to actually put something out there! (A large part of the reason I've been so quiet is that I was working on the script for someone else's VN, which was set in a culture I didn't know much about, so I had to spend months researching before I could write. Which is a good thing--learning is always a good thing--but has its downside, because I have now spent an ungodly amount of money on danmei novels and merch (esp. the merch!) and will likely continue spending too much money on it because, well, can anyone really watch The Untamed and not fall in love with those two? Slight additional downside is that I now have a Google doc with about 25-30k words of fanfiction ideas, which could slow down my game dev progress considerably...though I will be finishing the next draft of The Martial Maenads before I allow myself to do any more fanfic writing.)
Anyway, while I did all the writing and coding (aside from bits of complicated code provided by others on itch.io), I didn't make any of the assets (well, except that I modified the default Ren'py GUI slightly, if that counts?), so here's a full listing of who made what, along with the URLs to find the original assets! :D
The adorable character sprites are by Minttydrops (though I did give Umbra one new expression)
Umbra's dialog emojis are by Pipoya
One of the other sprites used is by Aekashics, and the other is by Seraph Circle
The music is by Potion Audio; I also used some of their sound effects
The other sound effects in the game came from Freesound.org:
- The running feet in snow sounds are by InspectorJ
- The single large splash is also by InspectorJ
- The sound of an eagle's cry is by GreenW03
- The smaller splashes are by ecedede
- The clinking sound effect is by Kneeling
The frost breath and snowing effects are using code (and some small graphics) provided by CuteShadow
The kinetic text effects are using code provided by Wattson
The font used is the Dyslexic-friendly Sylexiad Serif font by Dr. Robert Hillier
And finally, there's all the background images. They're all photos from Wikimedia Commons that I've run through an oil pastel filter in FotoSketcher (I was wanting a picture-book look...which I didn't entirely achieve, but...oh well...) and there are quite a few of them! The photographers whose work I used are:
- Babarracus (1 image)
- Susulyka (1 image)
- Ales Kladnik (1 image)
- Ted Moravec (1 image)
- Theo Crazzolara (1 image)
- ForestWander (3 images: 1, 2, 3)
- Ivo Kruusamägi (1 image)
- Randi Hausken (2 images: 1, 2)
- Jan-Erik Finnberg (1 image)
- Ingolfson (2 images: 1, 2)
- Whistleswhite (1 image)
As many of those photographs were released in a "share alike" CC license, I felt the language of the license implied that if I modified the photos in any way, then I was obligated to release the modified photos under the same license, even if I modified them for use in my own project (this may be me misunderstanding the license?), so I've released those BGs in a background pack attached to this game. :D No idea if anyone else will find them useful, but they're there if you want them!
While not a direct influence on this game in most respects, my decision to make Umbra speak only in images was inspired by Katy133's 2021 Spooktober game, Ghost Switch, which went the full distance of only using images for dialog! (And is much better than this game...)
Of course, using emoji-only dialog can be problematic if you forget what you called one of the emoji...
(Surprisingly, it pretty much only happened the once. Though there were several times where I accidentally typed "imaeg" instead of "image"...)
